The real geranium-

There are annual geraniums, and then there are the real geraniums.
Real geraniums are hardy perennials that come back year after year
on their own and offer a wide range of flower colors, including shades
of white, pink, purple, and blue. If you plant several varieties, you can
see a display of flowers from spring to autumn, and have the benifit of
attractive foliage that provides interest even when the plants aren't in bloom.

Whidbey Island's Meerkerk Gardens

Kyle and I visited Meerkerk Gardens on Saturday. Meerkerk Gardens
is comprised of ten acres of desplay and educational gardens
surrounded by forty three acres of woodland preserve. The garden
trail takes you through the hybrid test garden, heritage gardens
and past the nursery. The rhododendrons and azaleas are so
beautiful and some are the size of large trees.

One of my last tulips...of course, lavender.

This gem is a "nicatine" plant.
It seems this year my garden is becoming
home to many lavender flowering plants.

What a season for Springer's! This was our last weekend
to fish down on the Columbia river for Spring Chinook Salmon (Springer's).
We had many weekends of rain, which is typical for this fishery. However,
this last weekend we got to enjoy beautiful weather!

This little lavender bloom just opened in my garden.
Isn't it beautiful?
I have forgotten what it's name is, but must
look at the nursery and see if I can find another.

One of my favorite Spring flowers are Trilliums! These little
flowers emerge from dormancy in early Spring, before the
leaves are out on the trees overhead, and they go dormant in late
Summer. Trilliums are slow growers. Most plants will set seed,
but those seeds will only germinate under ideal conditions,
and seedlings can take years to reach flowering size.

This is one of my Trilliums in my backyard. I have been
growing this little gem for 4 years now and it multiplied
this year giving my two blooms.

I can't wait to find some of the varieties above to
add to my garden.

Enjoy,

My latest collage. I did this on the boat.
During Spring and Summer I have a hard time
staying focused on drawing, collaging, and creating art.
The reason for this is I love to garden and enjoy spending any
free time outside. However, during Spring I usually am with my
sweetheart fishing down on the Columbia in Cathlamet, Washington and
since I can't sit still for more than a minute I always make sure I have my
Journals and colored pencils on the boat.
